A Field Report from the Young Man's Father:
My son refuses to talk about it with anyone. He told me about it the night it happened but doesn't want to talk about it anymore. It really shook him up...
It happened on two consecutive weekends this past January. Both involved my son who is 21 and didn't believe in these type of things. It happened at a place called Corbitt Wildlife which is like a huge area in Florida that is surrounded by a fence and you need a key to get in there.
The first incident my son and his friend were fishing along the banks of the little lakes and canals while his friend's father was in a boat a little bit away from them. They first smelled a horrible smell that they at first thought was something dead. They tried moving away from it but it was still there. All of a sudden something big charged them through the thick brush. They couldn't see what it was but it scared them enough to leave and go back to the boat.
When they told his friend's father what had happened he said it might of been a wild boar but he still angled the boat over to the area where it happened and they all heard something big moving through the brush so they let the area. The following weekend they went back but went a different way where they could get in because the gate was left unlocked. They went back to around the same area as the week before. They got there about 7 AM and started fishing right away.
It was the same set-up as the last time with my son and his friend fishing the canals and lakes and his friend's father in his boat. The smell started around 9 AM and this time they got really scared by it because of what happened the week before so they moved down away from that area. As they began fishing again a clay rock about 4 inches across landed in front of my son. He said there was no way his friend could of done it because he would have seen him since he was right across from him.
When my son bent down to pick up the rock he saw movement out of the corner of his eye up on road about 5 yards away. When he turned to see it, something had stopped in the middle of the dirt road. He described it to me as a huge "gorilla" --about 6.5 to 7 feet tall and about 400 pounds he said you could see it was extremely muscular with very wide shoulders. The position of the sun obscured his vision of its face but he could see the eyes and they were big. He said it seemed like it stood there for an hour just looking at him.
He was afraid to move but sensed it wouldn't hurt him, that it just wanted him to leave. When I say stood there he described it as in a "catcher's position" its long arms out in front of its body. When it left, it took off on all fours into the brush on the other side of the road. When he got up the courage to go see where it went it was completely gone. No sound, nothing.
We've been in touch with the BFRO and another organization here in Florida and will be going out there soon to probably spend the night. They'll be bringing camera traps and all the other equipment. I'll let you know what happens...
